Energy Analysts develop and maintain a high-level understanding of energy markets by locating, gathering, and analyzing energy data, and they work in a variety of positions including at engineering firms specializing in building efficiency.
Energy Analysts are expected to learn the mechanics of the energy market and analyze complex data; understand and quantify the trends impacting the industry; and present forecasting reports, data, and information on these trends in a format that is useful and easily understood. In relation to buildings and the HVAC/R industry, Energy Analysts conduct energy audits, site assessments and building inspections to evaluate current energy usage and identify energy conservation opportunities. They analyze utility bills using analytical modeling tools to identify building energy consumption and opportunities for reduction and develop energy management plans and determine the feasibility, energy savings and cost benefits of their recommendations.
