Commissioning Specialists test and evaluate the mechanical and/or building automation systems of commercial buildings to ensure these systems operate as designed and constructed, and make recommendations to improve efficiency and system performance.
Installing new or retrofitting existing climate control and/or building automation systems in large commercial buildings and offices isn’t always an exact science. Complications and modifications in design and construction can greatly affect how well such systems work. HVAC Commissioning Specialists analyze the performance of these systems. They ensure that the climate controls and building automation systems operate properly and efficiently, fine-tuning the system through testing and evaluation procedures. Commissioning Specialists are usually involved with system start-up and will document all testing procedures. They troubleshoot problems and make recommendations to the system design engineers to improve operation. Commissioning Specialists are technical experts and must be able to work under pressure during the start-up and intense periods of testing the system.
