Working under the supervision of a Building Automations Systems Technician, the Trainee utilizes their previous knowledge and experience of HVAC/R and electrical systems of buildings, to install, troubleshoot, and commission Building Automation Systems.
Building Automation Trainees (BAS) work closely with BAS Technicians to troubleshoot, fix and update HVAC systems and associated controls; download, update and verify software accuracy; and calibrate and test HVAC systems and controls. Most BAS Trainees already have a background in HVAC/R technology, either from on-the-job experience or completing a certificate or degree program. In many cases, BAS Trainees are individuals who migrated from an HVAC/R Residential of Commercial Installer position to specialize in the installation and operation of building automation systems. Other BAS Trainees come from fields such as: electricity/electronics, mechanical systems, or computer technology and learn about building automation systems by working under an experienced technician.
